About Us
Moolis Moolman (owner) was a tropical fish breeder (nearly 100 species) marine hobbyist and very active FISH hobbyist (chairman of Jacaranda Aquarium club) Deciding to make his passion his income Moolis started Pet Stop in 2002 as a small 60m² shop doing mainly tropical fish with a little bit of birds and general pet accessories.
The passion that Moolis had for tropical fish, marine fish, marine invertebrates and the pet trade in general caused massive shortage of space for stock on a constant basis.
Growth was constantly form 2003 with additional 30m², 2004 another 25m² was added, November 2005 saw another edition of 90m², and again more space (35m ²) was procured from the landlord in 2006. 2007 the only alternative for available space was to move the pacing station outside into a 12 meter container. Future expansions are in the pipe line when other tenants lease contracts are renewable.
November 2004 the opportunity arose for Pet Stop to start manufacturing aquariums, which was grabbed immediately. Today Pet Stop manufactures 20 to 35 aquariums for owns use per week and are normally booked 3 to 4 weeks in advance. In addition to this Pet Stop manufacture aquariums to wholesale to other pet outlets as well.
During the period end of 2005 to beginning 2006, Pet Stop expanded so mush in customer base that the need for experienced department heads became clear. Wimpie (25 years experience with birds) was employed as head of the bird department and supervisor over the dog department. Shawn (ex-pet shop owner and avid reptile and fish keeper) was selected as Supervisor of the reptile department and head of aquarium installations.
Marines are the strongest growing sector in the pet trade. Following this trend the marine department (Moolis and Zak) is at present the biggest outlet of MARINE live stock in Pretoria/Tswane and are constantly expanding
Reptiles, like marines are a very fast growing industry, due to Shawn’s management the reptile department is expanding fast to become one of the leaders in the greater Pretoria/Tswane area.
Pet Stop’s plans for the future involve a new premises that would be a mega store. But in the mean time we intend to add an open area for Koi and birds to the existing premises.
